Good visibility (15-25 ft) with blue water and cleaner pockets emerging; light 1-3 ft swell and calm surface conditions. Best window earlier in the day before modest onshore winds arrive and as tide pushes cleaner water in through afternoon.

Scripps Pier Cam observation: visibility 13–16 ft (auto, medium confidence). The right-edge 4 ft piling is crisp with individual algal/mussel growth resolved, and the 11 ft piling behind the kelp reads as a solid, slightly softened column. The back-left 14 ft piling shows as a low-contrast silhouette with only a hint of its horizontal brace, and nothing registers at the 30 ft position. Water is bright blue-green with moderate particulate haze in the lower frame.

San Diego's storied legal kelp: the outer beds off Boomers and Hospital Point, where the spring squid spawn brings white seabass within a shore swim of downtown La Jolla. Legality: OPEN, Matlahuayl SMR's southern boundary is at 32°51.067'N (Point La Jolla / Alligator Rock), so the water off Boomer Beach, Children's Pool, and Hospital Point is legal, down to South La Jolla SMR at 32°49.573'N (Palomar Ave). Enter via the Boomers ocean-access lane (the beach land itself is closed for sea lions, the water lane stays open), or from the Cove with the gun unloaded and held above water until past Alligator Rock.
